Sheffield sits just north of my base in Chesterfield, which makes it one of the areas I travel to most. The whole city is well under 45 minutes away, so in-person sessions happen in your own home, at a time that works around your job and your midwife appointments.

For 1:1 courses across Sheffield and South Yorkshire I come to you. If you would rather not host, or your weeks are hard to predict, the same four-week course runs fully online, with identical content and identical resources.

I also teach hypnobirthing in Mansfield, Worksop and Nottingham.

About Donna

Hi, I'm Donna. Founder of The Birth Shed.

I became a mum to my son in 2022. Hypnobirthing is the reason I am not traumatised by my son's birth experience. I am evidence that hypnobirthing can work for ANY birth.

My son's birth was not what I had imagined AT ALL. My plan was a spontaneous labour and pool birth, and instead I had an induction and a Caesarean birth, because of being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia.

Common questions

Hypnobirthing, explained.

What exactly is hypnobirthing?

Despite the name, hypnobirthing isn't about being hypnotised like what you see on the telly, where the person seems to be under some kind of spell or putting yourself into some trance-like state. It's a complete birth preparation method that combines evidence-based information, practical tools, breathing techniques, relaxation, and positive mindset work to help you approach birth feeling calmer, more confident, and more prepared. At its heart, hypnobirthing helps you understand what's happening in your body during labour so you can work with it, rather than against it, release fear and build trust in yourself, so you can make informed decisions and navigate birth feeling empowered, whatever path it takes.

Will I be hypnotised or lose control?

Not at all. Not like those hypnotising acts you see on the telly! It's nothing like that I can assure you. In fact, hypnobirthing is the opposite of losing control. You'll be fully aware, present, and able to make decisions throughout your birth. The "hypno" part simply refers to the deeply relaxed state we naturally enter when we're focused, calm, and absorbed in something. Relaxation is actually a skill, that you will learn how to achieve and get better at through practice. This way, you'll learn how to switch off the noise, quieten fear and anxiety, and feel more grounded and in control during pregnancy and birth.

Is hypnobirthing only for 'natural' births?

No. Hypnobirthing works for every kind of birth. Vaginal or Caesarean, low risk or high risk, home, hospital or birth centre, with or without pain relief. The techniques are about staying calm and informed whatever path your labour takes. My two births looked very different and I was able to use Hypnobirthing throughout both.

From parents who have been through it

From parents who have been through it.

“First let me tell you I was TERRIFIED of giving birth and always have been. Donna was absolutely fantastic. Donna showed me how in control I could be of my own birth. I absolutely loved every moment of my birth and now have my beautiful baby girl. Thank you so much Donna, you're truly amazing. I cannot recommend enough.”

Heather, first-time mum

“From the very first session, Donna made us feel empowered, informed, and so much more confident about our upcoming birth. The course was clearly and expertly structured, combining practical and scientific information about labour with powerful relaxation techniques and mindset tools that truly changed the way we viewed childbirth. Donna also provided some much needed advice from a birth partner perspective, enabling me to understand how I can best support my partner.”
